Day 2 of the Tioman trip saw the big group split into two smaller ones: the first hiking in Juara and the second snorkeling in Tekek. Here is what the two groups are saying about their respective trips:
Group 1 (Juara): "On our first full day here, our group was taken to Juara for a three hour trek followed by a visit to the turtle conservation organisation. Not only did the trek allow us to test our abilities and believe in ourselves as we crossed the difficult paths but it also provided a beautiful waterfall view midway. Unfortunately, we were unable to see any turtles as the nesting season has just finished. However, we were able to learn a lot about the process that goes behind taking care of and protecting turtles. This was an amazing experience that we wouldn’t have experienced if not for this trip."
Group 2 (Tekek): "On Day 2 of our Week Without Walls trip at Tioman we took out boats to get to Tekek. When we arrived we were given a briefing about the events, and then we were separated into two groups of people who did snorkeling and/or kayaking. There were some students who experienced these events for the first time and we thought that it was one of the most significant events throughout the trip so far. After we enjoyed our time in the sea exploring the beautiful coral reefs, we were given a briefing about the corals and learnt some new information and features about them. Finally, we experienced making the artificial "coral pots" in order to help with the restauration and preservation of the reefs.
Since our main goal for Day 2 was to learn about corals and their environment, we were able to learn a lot and realized the importance of the coral reefs from today's events."
Patrick Varias mentioned that "the coral is really well conserved and a lot of fish were swimming through it" while Sabrina Sufian claims she "saw Nemo" only to be countered by Schezin Masud who says "there was one Dori" in the water around the coral reefs. Today's trip found us all excited and tired at the same time, yet looking forward to tomorrow's adventures.
